Brest Souvenir Factory

Collection Series “Traditional Costume Styles of Belarus” Folk Costume in the Form of Matryoshkas and Wooden Dolls

The “Traditional Costume Styles of Belarus” collection series is a project by Brest Souvenir Factory dedicated to the beauty and diversity of Belarusian folk costume.

About the Collection Series

Folk Costume in the Form of Matryoshkas and Wooden Dolls

The series includes matryoshkas and wooden dolls hand-painted after traditional costume styles. Each image conveys the character of the costume: silhouette, color, ornament, headdress, decorative details and overall mood.

An Artistic Reinterpretation of Costume

This is not a dry museum reconstruction, but an artistic reinterpretation of folk costume in souvenir form. These pieces can be given as gifts, collected, displayed at home or used as a beautiful way to discover the culture of Belarus.

What the Series Includes

The collection includes pieces inspired by six traditional costume styles of Belarus:

The series comes in different formats: matryoshka sets, keychains, wooden dolls and wooden doll sets. You can choose one image, collect several costume styles or purchase a ready-made set where different costumes form one complete collectible story.

Malorita Costume Style

Malorita Costume Style

The Malorita costume style is notable for its archaic character, complete form and special expressiveness of the women’s costume. It features natural tones of linen, hemp and wool, along with a characteristic combination of white-gray and brown-red colors.

One of the main details of the image is the original namitka headdress. Festive burka skirts, a woven red belt, decorative apron ties and the “kozhushkom” weaving technique make this costume style especially distinctive.

In the collection, the Malorita costume style is presented as an image of quiet strength, age and deep-rooted tradition.

Domachevo Costume Style

Domachevo Costume Style

The Domachevo costume style is one of the brightest and most elegant images in the collection. It has plenty of color, decoration and festive character. The costume included a shirt, skirt, apron, corset and headdress.

Especially expressive are the wide, richly decorated sleeves of the shirt, as well as the skirt and apron made of homespun fabric with red, green, white, blue and black stripes. The women’s corset was complemented by braid, ribbons, buttons and decorative stitching.

In the collection, the Domachevo costume style looks warm, lively and highly noticeable — like a true festive costume.

Kalinkovichi Costume Style

Kalinkovichi Costume Style

The Kalinkovichi costume style stands out for its rich ornamentation and attention to detail. The women’s costume included a shirt, skirt, sleeveless vest, apron and nametka, with each element playing its own decorative role.

The main feature of this costume style is the shirt with a turned-down “bryzhy” collar, lace trim and expressive embroidery on the sleeves. The ornament often includes a geometric diamond-shaped pattern. The sleeveless vest was decorated with embroidery, stitching, braid, galloons and shiny details.

In the collection, the Kalinkovichi costume style is presented as a festive, composed and ornament-rich image.

Molodechno Costume Style

Molodechno Costume Style

The Molodechno costume style combines restraint, harmony and neat decorative detail. It is based on a linen shirt, an andarak skirt, a jacket, an apron and a kaptur headdress.

The andarak skirt was made of homespun wool with multicolored horizontal stripes. The shirt was decorated with embroidery on the cuffs and collar, the jacket was calmer in decoration, and the light apron was complemented by a laconic botanical ornament. Together, these details created a balanced and complete image.

In the collection, the Molodechno costume style looks soft, calm and very harmonious.

Neglyubka Costume Style

Neglyubka Costume Style

The Neglyubka costume style is one of the most expressive and richly decorated images in the collection. It preserved archaic features for a long time and is distinguished by special decorative strength.

The costume complex included a shirt, a paneva skirt, an apron, a maiden kalyshka skirt, a scarf and numerous ornaments made of ribbons, beads, seed beads and goose down. Especially recognizable is the white shirt with rhythmic red stripes and sleeves actively filled with ornament. The belt, paneva and headdress also played an important role in the overall image.

In the collection, the Neglyubka costume style is presented as a bright, strong and ancient-feeling image.

Novogrudok Costume Style

Novogrudok Costume Style

The Novogrudok costume style is distinguished by restraint, a slim silhouette and a refined sense of taste. Compared with more archaic costume styles, it looks calmer and closer to practical modernity.

The costume included a shirt, skirt, apron, belt and sleeveless vest. Its features include fine geometric ornament in red thread, a dark garset with basque folds, and an andarak in green-blue, violet and blue shades. Ornaments and the headdress completed the image without overloading it.

In the collection, the Novogrudok costume style looks delicate, noble and very composed.

Hand Painting and Collectible Value

Hand Painting and Collectible Value

Each piece is hand-painted, so it always carries the living work of the artist: line, color, facial expression and small costume details. Even pieces of the same design may differ slightly — and this is exactly where the handwork can be felt.

The “Traditional Costume Styles of Belarus” collection series is not just a group of souvenirs. It is a way to preserve the beauty of folk costume in a form that can be given as a gift, displayed at home, collected and passed on.
