About us
The first matryoshka in Brest appeared in 1953 at the Souvenir Factory and soon became the factory's main product. Brest matryoshkas were distributed throughout the Soviet Union and far beyond its borders. Polished blanks came from the turning shop to the painting department. Over the years, the factory developed a special Brest style of painting, a unique shape of the blank, and production technology. Thus, it is safe to speak of the existence of something known as the Brest matryoshka. Brest souvenirs were exported to 17 countries during those years, including the United Kingdom, France, the USA, and also enjoyed demand among the local population.
After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the factory experienced hard times, and in 2020 the Brest Souvenir Factory "Slavyanka" closed. LLC "ViViTrek" took up the "baton" to ensure this legacy was not lost. The company's founder, Vladimir Vostrikov, has been familiar with matryoshkas since childhood. His mother, Alla Vostrikova, has been painting matryoshkas at the Brest factory for over 20 years.
Today, ViViTrek sells matryoshkas directly to customers around the world, and there are hardly any countries left where Brest matryoshkas can't be found.
The company slogan is "Made with Love". By purchasing a Brest matryoshka, you invest in the manufacturer and receive a small part of the time that the craftsmen spent not only on production but also on learning their craft - their inspiration, imagination, and passion.
The depicted scenes and painting techniques can be very diverse. Currently, more than 200 different models of matryoshkas are produced on various themes: National Traditions, Animals, Fairy Tales, Cartoons, Professions. Custom orders are also available. In addition to traditional and author's matryoshkas, you can order personalized matryoshkas for individual orders, such as a corporate souvenir or a wedding gift. There are even matryoshkas with Brest landmarks!
The only place for the production of Brest matryoshkas is located at Lieutenant Ryabtsev 44g. Here, matryoshkas undergo all stages of creation, starting from wooden boards and ending with the finished painted doll. Matryoshkas from the first to the sixth tier are manufactured using mechanisms at the main production. The seventh and eighth layers are handmade. Currently, 49 people work at the Brest matryoshka factory. All production processes are located in one building: woodworking, grinding, painting, packaging, and office areas.
Each matryoshka undergoes special stages of production, which include:
- - sourcing high-quality wood, at this stage alder, birch, and aspen are best suited;
- - Cutting the wood into beams from the solid wood;
- - Drying the wood to the necessary moisture level;
- - Machining - more than 15 operations;
- - Painting, at this stage water-emulsion paints are used;
- - Varnishing.
