Сделано с любовью в Бресте

For collectors of rare and valuable pieces, the artisans of Brest Souvenir Factory have created a unique and one-of-a-kind set. The second installment of the "Traditional Women's Costumes of Belarus" collection features a set of seven beautifully hand-painted nesting dolls.

Each matryoshka doll is dressed in the Domachevo folk costume, a distinctive Belarusian national attire. Instead of the usual Slavic patterns, the dolls' dresses are decorated with playful striped designs, characteristic of this regional style. These handcrafted nesting dolls serve as both decorative collectibles and a perfect addition to the rest of the series.

The artisans of Brest Matryoshka have been crafting traditional wooden dolls for nearly a century, delighting collectors with hand-painted designs inspired by Slavic heritage. Each piece is made from high-quality wood, painted with water-based colors, and sealed with hypoallergenic lacquer, ensuring durability and safety. Beyond being a stunning home décor item, these wooden dolls also make excellent educational toys for children, bringing joy and adding a touch of cultural heritage.

Historical Insight: The Domachevo Folk Costume

The Domachevo costume was traditionally worn in the southwestern regions of Belarus, particularly in the Brest and Malorita districts, as well as in eastern Poland (near Włodawa) and western Volyn in Ukraine.

This regional dress consisted of a linen shirt, skirt, apron, corset, and headpiece. The shirt featured a wide collar and heavily embroidered sleeves, which were distinctive to this style. The skirt and apron were woven from homemade linen or wool fabric, pleated into large folds, and decorated with longitudinal or transverse stripes in red, green, white, blue, and black.

The corset was an essential part of a young girl's and woman’s outfit. Women's corsets were made from factory-produced light blue wool and richly decorated at the front with colorful trims, ribbons, buttons, and decorative stitching.

Married women wore a red headband (hood) with a pointed front, over which a stiffly starched, colorful scarf was wrapped into a rolled turban-like shape.

This handcrafted nesting doll set beautifully captures the essence of Belarusian folk costumes, offering both a valuable collectible and a unique cultural keepsake.
