This is the sixth part of our collection «Traditional Women's Costumes of Belarus», featuring the Ponemanye region. The Navahrudak costume is one of the local variations of the Belarusian national dress, primarily found in the Hrodna region, as well as parts of Minsk and Brest regions. Since Hrodna historically developed faster than other regions, its traditional clothing appears less archaic and more modernized. The women's costume is characterized by elegance and simplicity, featuring a slim silhouette and geometric ornamentation with intricate patterns embroidered in red cotton threads. The main colors used in the costume are green, blue, violet, and deep blue.

The traditional Navahrudak ensemble consists of a shirt, skirt, apron, belt, and sleeveless vest.

Elements of the Navahrudak Costume

  • Shirt ("harsovka") – A moderate fit with delicate detailing.
  • Vest ("harset") – A black wool vest with pleated basque panels.
  • Skirt ("andarak") – Typically green-blue, green-black, or violet plaid, pleated into large folds and cinched with a narrow decorative belt. The design follows a unique rhythm in the arrangement of patterns.
  • Accessories – Traditional beaded necklaces and a floral wreath headpiece.

For years, the masters of Brest Souvenir Factory have delighted customers with handmade wooden matryoshka dolls. This collection of six unique sets, made from high-quality wood, water-based paints, and hypoallergenic lacquer, is more than just home décor—it is also a beautiful educational toy for children.

The largest matryoshka in the set stands at 9.5 cm (3.7 inches), while the smallest is just 2.2 cm (0.9 inches). Each doll is hand-painted, ensuring that no two pieces are exactly alike—a truly one-of-a-kind collector’s item!
