Nesting Doll Painting Workshop

Create your own souvenir in Brest – not just something to take home, but a piece made by your own hands.

The nesting doll painting workshop is a warm creative experience in the shop-museum of Brest Souvenir Factory. You will discover the factory’s history, see a small exhibition of traditional and contemporary pieces, and then paint your own set of nesting dolls.

Nesting Doll Painting Workshop in Brest

The first Brest nesting doll was made in 1953. Since then, wooden souvenirs, hand painting, and the work of artists have become an important part of the factory’s story. During the workshop, this story becomes personal: you do not just look at a finished piece – you create your own.

What to Expect

Everything is prepared for you: wooden nesting dolls, paints, brushes, an apron, instructions, and a master nearby.

Materials for the nesting doll painting workshop
  • a set of 5 wooden nesting dolls for painting
  • paints, brushes, an apron, and all necessary materials
  • a placemat instruction sheet with painting tips
  • guidance from the master at every stage
  • an introduction to the history of Brest Souvenir Factory
  • the finished nesting doll set to take home with you

The workshop is suitable for adults and children, tourists, families, groups of friends, school groups, corporate guests, and anyone who wants to take home not just a souvenir from Brest, but something made by hand.

How the Workshop Works

You will get acquainted with the shop-museum and its small exhibition, then receive the blanks, materials, and instructions, while the master guides you through each stage of painting.

Introduction to the Shop-Museum

You will get acquainted with the shop-museum and its small exhibition: see pieces from different years, learn how hand painting developed, and discover why souvenirs can still preserve the memory of places, events, and people.

Blanks, Materials, and Instructions

Then the master will provide the blanks, materials, and instructions. You can choose a traditional motif or create your own idea. The design is sketched in pencil, then the nesting doll is painted with colors.

Painting with the Master’s Guidance

At every stage, the master will be nearby to help with colors, composition, and details. After drying, the painting can be sealed with varnish, or you can take the varnish with you if the piece needs more time to dry.

In the end, you will have a finished nesting doll set to take home – not just a souvenir from Brest, but something made by your own hands.
