The fifth part of the collection «Traditional Women's Costumes of Belarus» takes us to the eastern region of Belarus—Podniprovie. This set includes six hand-painted nesting dolls, crafted from natural wood in the traditional Belarusian style.

The costume depicted on the dolls consists of a shirt, skirt (paneva), apron, maiden’s underskirt (kalyshka), and a headscarf (platok). The outfit was completed with various accessories such as ribbons, beads, embroidery, and even goose down decorations. The Neglubka-style costume retained its archaic features for a long time and only incorporated a sleeveless corset (karset) in the 1920s.

The shirt (rubakha) is adorned with repeating red stripes and features intricate embroidery arranged in vertical and horizontal patterns. The skirt (paneva) required special weaving skills, as it was the most complex piece of clothing. The woven belt was wide and finished with decorative fringes and tassels called “puply”. Summer variations of the costume were often found in black and white color palettes. The headscarf (platok) was woven with ornamental patterns and tied in a style reminiscent of an Eastern turban.

The largest doll in the set measures 11 cm (4.3 inches), while the smallest is 2.2 cm (0.9 inches). This set is part of a unique collection of handcrafted Matryoshka dolls, created by artisans with over 80 years of experience.
