Friends, the fifth part of our collection «Traditional Women's Costumes of Belarus» is here! This time, we travel to the eastern part of the country – the Dnieper region (Podniepraviе). The set includes seven matryoshka dolls, each handcrafted from natural wood and hand-painted in traditional Belarusian style.

The Neglyubsky costume consisted of a shirt, skirt ("paneva"), apron, maiden skirt ("kalyshka"), and a headscarf ("platok"), complemented by various decorations such as ribbons, beads, embroidery, and goose down ornaments. This style remained unchanged for centuries and only in the 1920s incorporated a sleeveless vest ("karset").

Elements of the Neglyubsky Costume

  • Shirt (рубаха) – A white linen blouse with rhythmic red stripes and rich embroidery covering the sleeves in a vertical-horizontal pattern. The lower hem features a horizontal embroidered band, while the back has two vertical embroidered motifs.
  • Skirt ("paneva") – Worn with the back part tucked into the waistband, ensuring that the hanging corner aligns with the embroidered band on the shirt. The paneva was the most technically complex piece of the outfit, requiring exceptional weaving skills.
  • Wide Belt (пояс) – Crafted using a special weaving technique, with a decorative fringe ("pupla"). Summer versions of the outfit often featured black and white color schemes.
  • Headscarf ("platok") – A woven scarf with ornamental patterns, tied in the style of an Eastern turban.

The largest nesting doll in the set stands at 13.5 cm (5.3 inches), while the smallest measures just 2.2 cm (0.9 inches).

Collect the entire series of hand-painted matryoshka dolls, created by a manufacturer with over 80 years of experience in preserving folk traditions.
