Сделано с любовью в Бресте

Friends, the third part of our collection is here! This time, we travel to Eastern Polesia to explore the Kalinkovichi folk costume, a regional variation of the Belarusian national dress traditionally worn in the Kalinkovichi, Svetlogorsk, and Zhlobin districts.

The women’s costume consisted of four key elements: a linen shirt (кашуля), skirt (спадніца or woolen андорак), sleeveless vest (гарсэт or кабат), apron (пераднік), and headscarf (наметка). A distinctive feature of the shirt was its lace-trimmed turned-down collar, known as "брыжы," inspired by Western European fashion of the 16th century. The sleeves were richly embroidered, typically featuring geometric diamond-shaped patterns.

The sleeveless vest (гарсет) was heavily decorated with embroidery, machine stitching, sequins, braids, and trims, making it a signature part of the costume. The apron embroidery was often a narrow band of red geometric patterns (1–2 palm widths wide), serving not only as an ornamental element but also as a protective symbol.

During festivals and market days, the apron was an essential decorative piece paired with the skirt and andarak, completing the festive look.

For collectors of rare and valuable pieces, the artisans of Brest Souvenir Factory have created exclusive handcrafted nesting doll sets. Be sure to check out the first and second parts of the «Traditional Women's Costumes of Belarus» collection to complete your unique series.
