Сделано с любовью в Бресте

Friends, the third part of our collection is here! This time, we travel to Eastern Polesia with a beautifully handcrafted nesting doll set, created by the skilled artisans of Brest Souvenir Factory. Whether as a souvenir gift or a traditional toy, this set is a perfect choice.

Painted in folk art traditions using water-based paints and sealed with hypoallergenic lacquer, the set consists of five matryoshka dolls. The largest "Matrona" stands at 9.5 cm (3.7 inches), while the smallest fits in the palm of your hand at just 2.2 cm (0.9 inches).

The Kalinkovichi costume is one of the regional variations of the Belarusian national dress, traditionally worn in the Kalinkovichi, Svetlogorsk, and Zhlobin districts.

The women’s outfit included four key elements: a linen shirt (кашуля), skirt (спадніца or woolen андорак), sleeveless vest (гарсэт or кабат), apron (пераднік), and a headscarf (наметка). A defining feature of the shirt was its ornate collar and richly embroidered sleeves, often decorated with geometric diamond-shaped patterns. The lace-trimmed, turned-down collar called "брыжы" was inspired by Western European fashion of the 16th century.

The sleeveless vest (гарсет) was heavily embroidered and adorned with machine stitching, sequins, braids, and decorative trims, making it a distinctive part of the costume. The apron embroidery typically featured a narrow band of red geometric patterns (1-2 palm widths wide), serving not just an aesthetic function but also a symbolic protective role.

During festivals and fair days, the apron was an essential decorative element paired with the skirt and andarak, completing the festive attire.

For collectors of rare and valuable pieces, the artisans of Brest Souvenir Factory have created a truly unique set. Don’t forget to explore the first and second parts of the "Traditional Women's Costumes of Belarus" collection to complete your one-of-a-kind series.
